Party Gaming Network

Founded in 1997, well before the online poker boom, Party Poker was one of the first truly successful online poker operations. They were in the right place at the right time when the online poker popularity boom came about, and they cashed in on it shooting straight to the top and becoming the #1 online poker destination for players world over. It was during that heyday that Party Poker started developing a poker network, by offering their software to several up and coming online poker rooms in return for revenue sharing. That first Party Gaming Poker network was marred by dissent between the member rooms and Party Poker, dissent which in several cases led to legal litigation. Most of those problems were solved by Party Poker through the purchasing of the said operations.

The 2006 UIGEA hit he site right where it hurt most: its US player base. Among the first to stop accepting US traffic in the wake of the UIGEA, Party Poker have taken a huge hit traffic-wise and quickly lost their leading position to operations like Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars. Given the fact however that they did indeed abide by US law from the very beginning, they are now in a favorable position to return to the US in case online poker is ever legalized.

After the UIGEA had humbled them, Party Poker began to whip various aspects of their operation into shape in order to create other selling angles. The software, which had been hopelessly lagging behind the competition for years, was overhauled, and the site re-launched in a new, European-oriented format. A new, more aggressive marketing approach saw the site begin to hire “name” representatives. Several high profile poker players joined the site, among them Mike Sexton and Tony G, who set the high-stakes tables on fire, once again turning the site into an attractive proposition for just about everyone outside the US.

The Party Gaming network currently consists of PartyPoker.com and PartyPoker.net. PartyPoker.com is where real money gaming takes place. On PartyPoker.net, play money games are offered. Noble Poker is another network member, but it does not share player base with Party Poker, nor does it use the Party Poker software. WPT Poker on the other hand does offer its players Party Poker promotions, like the Monthly Million, which is widely recognized as one of the best-value online poker tournaments.
