How to be a perfect poker prop?

Posted on October 14, 2009

As a poker prop, your ultimate goal is to make as much money as possible, in the shortest possible time. That objective has to guide your every move at table. In a word: you need to be a lean, mean poker propping machine.
Here’s a short checklist that should help you become a perfect poker prop.
- Always check in with the shift-manager. He may not always acknowledge your presence, but that doesn’t mean you should ever neglect it.
- Always take a glance at the prop pages before you begin a propping session. New info is posted there all the time, and you do not want to miss out on any of that.
- If there’s a prop list available, definitely take a look at it.
- Make sure you know all the prop rules by heart and that you follow them at all times too. Breaking these rules will usually cause the poker room to withhold your prop payment and when you’re aiming for maximum efficiency that is definitely the last thing you want.
- The chat feature is there to facilitate communication between players. It is not there to help you vent your anger over a bad beat (although that’s exactly what some folks use it for). As a prop player you have a responsibility to treat the other players with respect, so show restraint in chat and act in a professional manner. Never ever tell the other players that you are a prop.

Being the prefect prop is not rocket science, but there are definitely some subtleties involved in it that you’ll have to pay special attention to.
Make sure to whip you skills into shape as well. You’ll often find yourself in short handed situations, so be prepared to deal with it properly.
